The Pasinetti theorem in a task‐based model of automation Ghent University
We integrate the notion of task-based automation into a two-class model and study the interaction between endogenous automation and the wealth distribution between capitalists and workers. We find that, as the economy becomes more automated, the possibility of a sustained capitalist class naturally arises. We show that capital-augmenting technical progress induces automation and that it can generate a historical path from the dual equilibrium ...
Capital-augmenting technical change in the context of untapped automation opportunities Ghent University
Container terminal automation University of Antwerp
This study identifies and analyzes the relative importance of the multi-faceted factors that drive the decision to automate container terminals and the realized benefits, thus establishing how accurately terminal operators predicted the benefits of automation. The empirical analysis relies on a survey-based approach and the input of senior representatives of terminal operating entities in charge of the fully and semi-automated container ...
Future adoption of automation in weed control KU Leuven
© Springer Science+Business Media Dordrecht 2014. The future adoption of automated weed control, either chemical or mechanical or otherwise, depends on a number of driving forces as well as on constraints that affect the diffusion of innovations. Some driving forces are the high labor requirements for weed control in organic agriculture, the development of herbicide resistance of weeds, and societal pressure for reduction of chemical use in ...
A Hard- and Software System for Improving Automation in Metal Oxide Gassensor Production and Reliable Operation as Compact and Mobile Multi-Sensor Array Hasselt University
Fairness and justice through automation in China's smart courts Vrije Universiteit Brussel University of Antwerp
Xi Jinping's judicial reforms have placed the concepts of ‘fairness’ and ‘justice’ at the forefront, coinciding with the integration of information technology and AI into all aspects of China's court system through smart court reform. According to official Chinese discourse, smart court reform is supposed to make the justice system ‘fairer’. However, research has not yet clearly established how ‘fairness’ and automation are connected in the ...
To automate or not to automate? A contingency approach to service automation Hasselt University
PurposeFollowing a contingency approach, this paper aims to understand when service automation can enhance or destroy value for customers in the frontline by (1) providing a comprehensive overview of factors that influence the value co-creation/co-destruction potential of service automation and (2) zooming in on the combination of service contexts and service tasks to develop research propositions.Design/methodology/approachThis paper uses a ...
