ICP Aquaculture 2010-2011 Ghent University
The program aims to train young graduates to full-fledged aquaculture experts. The curriculum is aimed at the graduate participants on their return: 1) perform and conduct independent research; 2) to develop and launch successful applications; 3) disseminate their knowledge through education and extension; and 4) can detect a management position in an aquaculture.
Nutritional and microbiological studies in larval aquaculture Ghent University
Research at the Laboratory of Aquaculture & Artemia Reference Center has evolved from basic and applied research on the breeding biology of the brine shrimp Artemia to a multidisciplinary study of the cultivation of larval fish and shellfish in collaboration with research groups at home and abroad . The effect of administering microbiota of organisms on growth, gut development, immune response and survival is examined. A gnotobiotic These ...
ICP Aquaculture 2009-2010 Ghent University
Training of young graduates to full-fledged aquaculture experts. Microbes as positive actors for more sustainable aquaculture Ghent University
Unpredictable larval survival and quality, which have strong microbial components, are major bottlenecks in aquaculture. We need to understand and use these interactions to the benefit of fish. This project aims to disentangle the host-microbial interactions through systematic gathering of novel information. This will allow developing new protocols to rear aquaculture organisms in a sustainable and economical efficient way.

Small-scale aquaculture using kitchen waste and agricultural by-products as sustainable fish feed resources Ghent University
Small-scale fish ponds are a potential solution for quantitative and qualitative malnutrition in Ethiopia, especially for infants. This project evaluates if sustainable feed resources such as kitchen waste and agricultural by-products can be successfully applied to farm fish by rural households. First, on-campus experiments will be performed, that then will serve as basis to implement small-scale aquaculture at rural communities.

Framework for curriculum exchange in aquaculture education with Southern Africa Ghent University
The project contributes to the strategy of internationalisation in education and the empowerment of Southern partners for local capacity building endorsed by VLIR-UOS, Ghent University and Stellenbosch University. Its objective is to explore and validate a framework for educational exchange among its partners in a stepwise approach. This project will lay the foundation for further development of joint curricula & joint degrees in ...
