The demineralized water plant of the future Ghent University
Because of water scarcity, the influence of different water qualities on the TOC removal (Total Organic Carbon) is of increasing importance during industrial water production. In addition, the current TOC limit should be scientifically substantiated to characterize the corrosivity of a water stream based on acid formation of organic material during steam production.
Implementation of a cryogenic sample environment at the hard X-ray microprobe beamline P06 for synchrotron radiation based spectroscopy and imaging of biological samples on the nanoscopic scale. Ghent University
This project aims the realization of a unique cryogenic sample environment for the PETRA-III P06 microprobe to be used for synchrotron radiation based XRF micro/nano-spectroscopy and imaging on biological samples.
Metal-organic frameworks shaped as shells and plugs in porous bodies; applications in adsorption and catalysis. KU Leuven
Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) are crystalline nanoporous materials that consist of inorganic metal-containing nodes connected by polytopic organic linkers. MOFs are promising materials for novel applications in various industries because of their high specific surface area, synthetic flexibility and tunable structure-property relationships. For many application areas, such as catalysis, molecular separation and gas storage, MOFs can be ...
Stable isotope methods for the study of biogeochemical processes in aquatic environments and the paleoclimate Vrije Universiteit Brussel
Both research units have long-standing, complementary expertise in stable isotope analysis (method development and the study of biogeochemical processes in aquatic ecosystems for ANCH; isotope geology and the study of ...

Isotopic analysis of Cu, Fe and Zn in whole blood, serum and cerebrospinal fluid via multi-collector ICP - mass spectrometry: a novel approach to obtain insight into metabolism and to diagnose metal-related diseases Ghent University
The isotopic composition of Cu, Fe and Zn will be determined in whole blood, serum and cerebrospinal fluid via multi-collector ICP-mass spectrometry. Novel and improved analytical methods will be developed for this purpose. The capabiities of this approach for i) providing an enhanced insight into the metabolism of these transition metals and ii) diagnosis of diseases will be evaluated.
