Sacrificial death, potent afterlives: Sovereignty and martyrdom in Turkish Kurdistan Ghent University
This project investigates the central role sacrificial death and martyrdom play in the making and unmaking of political order in the contemporary Middle East. An in-depth study of Kurdish political martyrdom in Turkey, it explores how fallen guerrillas of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) acquire afterlives that vitalize Kurdish political agendas while posing a direct threat to Turkish sovereignty.
