Integrating 'emerging markets' into the global Financial system: Urban geographics of securitization in the Gulf Region Ghent University
In light of the growing financial geography literature, this project studies the integration of U+2018emergingU+2019 Gulf markets into global financial markets. In particular, the project apllies the U+2018securitization chainU+2019 concept, which analyzes the geographies and practices of actors involved in the production of securitized assets, and analyzes the consequences of the resulting integration for Gulf cities.
Female genital cutting as a religious identity marker among Coptic and Muslim women in Egypt. Ghent University
This proposal wants to contribute to our understanding of female religious agency concerning female genital cutting through analysis of religious discourse and ethnographic research among Coptic and Muslim women in Egypt. It focuses on women's negotiation with both internal societal religious and Westernized forces. The project wants to contribute to theorizing of the interplay of gender, religion and agency.
The politics of place making: community development and nature conservation practices in the South of Jordan Ghent University
This research studies the processes through which notions of community are deployed and used in the context of a community-based conservation project in Rahmeh, Jordan. Through an ethnographic analysis of these processes, the implications for the projectU+2019s outcomes in terms of the way a conservation area and its community are defined will be illuminated.
