Just Air? The Spatial Politics of Urban Air Pollution. KU Leuven
Air pollution is the largest environmental health hazard in the Western world. Especially cities are often ‘hotspots’ of air pollution. However, we are not all equally exposed to bad air. Due to the increasing role of traffic as one of the most important causes of air pollution, mainly people living near major roads suffer from its detrimental health effects. This project develops two case studies in Antwerp and London, where this unequal ...
Effects of prenatal and early childhood exposure to ambient air pollution and residential green spaces on the human gut microbiome and corresponding consequences on cardiovascular function and neurobehavioral performance. Hasselt University
Explainable Physics-guided Deep Learning for Air Pollution Inference Vrije Universiteit Brussel
Despite being reliable and easy-to-interpret, they are computationally ...
Early effects of air pollution on respiratory function and neurobehavioral abilities in children, and the influence of lifestyle changes to reduce exposure. University of Antwerp
3D Navier-Stokes modeling of air entrainment in breaking water waves and its effect on the compressibility of water during violent impact at coastal structures Ghent University
Violent impacts of breaking water waves on coastal structures are investigated by means of numerical simulations. A VOF-model is completed with models to capture the air entrainment in breaking waves. A better quality of the simulation will be obtained by treating the mixture of water and air as compressible.
Development of an air purification strategy with microbially precipitated nanocatalysts. Ghent University
This projects wants to apply the added values of microbially precipitated nanocatalysts in water treatment for purification of air. For a number of target pollutants, new types of reactors and new types of catalysts (new biologically precipitated metals, bimetallic catalysts) will be investigated. Next to that, also an detailed caracerisation of the formed nanoparticles are the scope of this research.
Half-precessional orbital forcing, the Congo Air Boundary, and geographical diversity in Africa's post-glacial climate history Ghent University
Documenting the spatial variability of past climate change is critical for understanding how external climate forcing, such as long-term changes in solar insolation or today’s anthropogenic increase in atmospheric greenhouse gases, affect earth’s climate at the regional scale. In contrast to the data-rich middle and high latitudes of the northern hemisphere, high-quality climate records from equatorial regions are scarce, especially from ...
