Biological characterisation of novel plasmid-carrying avian Chlamydia abortus strain 84/2334, a vaccine candidate for enzootic abortion in sheep Ghent University
Chlamydia abortus infects sheep causing ovine enzootic abortion (OEA). The commercial inactivated vaccines have low efficacy and the live vaccines can cause OEA.
We isolated strain 84/2334 from a parrot and classified it initially as Chlamydia psittaci. However, in depth genomic analysis revelaed that the strain actually belongs to a new avian C. abortus genotype. Sheep C.abortus strains have no plasmid, but 84/2334 has a plasmid, ...

Transplacental PRRSV transmission and pathogenesis of PRRSV- induced abortions is sows Ghent University
A PRRSV infection causes viremia during one month and can cause transplacental spread, fetal infection and abortion at the end of gestation. In the present project proposal it will be examined how PRRSV passes the placenta, why this happens at the end of gestation and how this leads finally to aboration.
An integrative framework for history teachers' adoption of inquirybased learning: Explaining current adoption and mapping short- and long-term effects of training offering extended support during implementation Ghent University
Inquiry-based learning is an instructional approach that provides students with authentic problems, and the materials necessary for drawing their own conclusions. According to educational research, inquiry-based learning is one of the most promising approaches to teaching history, as it contributes to an understanding of the content, as well as the ability to reason with historical information. Unfortunately, history lessons are often ...
Global families, global inequalities: The politics of relinquishment and reunion in transnational adoption. Perspectives of first families, adoption intermediaries and anti-adoption activists in Andean Bolivia Ghent University
The research aims to investigate the transnational adoption of children from the perspectives of actors in ‘sending’ countries. These perspectives have received insufficient attention in adoption research so far, leaving a major gap in our understanding of the complexities and social mechanisms that structure transnational adoption. Through an empirical study in the cities of La Paz and El Alto in Bolivia, this study seeks to investigate the ...
