See the entry of the chapter “Le città fortificate nei domini spagnoli delle Fiandre” (Fortified Cities in the Spanish Netherlands) for an English summary of that essay and these accompanying catalogue entries presenting five fortification drawings of Thionville, Groningen, Vlissingen and Maastricht from the years 1567-1579.
Staging the subject–object breakdown in Samuel Beckett’s Not I / Pas moi, That time / Cette fois and Footfalls / Pas University of Antwerp
This thesis charts the genesis of Samuel Beckett’s late plays Not I, That Time and Footfalls, which were written and first published in English: Not I in 1973; That Time and Footfalls in 1976. All three were published in French translations made by Beckett himself: Not I as Pas moi in 1975; Footfalls as Pas in 1977; and That Time as Cette fois in 1978. Accompanied by a genetic edition, which will be made available online as part of the Beckett ...

Collective Spaces for Super-Diversity: Brussels / Istanbul / Belfast / Shanghai KU Leuven
Collective Spaces for Super-Diversity covers a collection of Master's dissertations at KU Leuven's Faculty of Architecture, Sint-Lucas Brussels under the supervision of Burak Pak. During the last decades, collective spaces around Europe have been changing rapidly. We are witnessing the emergence of a new condition called "super-diversity". Coined by Vertovec super-diversity describes the diversification of diversity (2007). It is a new ...
Hi-tech / Low-tech / Bio-tech: Crafting the BioKnit Prototype Vrije Universiteit Brussel
What could a biological architecture look like? What would it feel like to inhabit a building that has been grown rather than constructed? BioKnit explores how knitted fabric can be used in a biohybrid↗ system with fungi and bacteria to produce a large-scale, freestanding structure. In contrast to the smooth, hard, rectilinear building interiors which have become ubiquitous over the last hundred years, BioKnit examines how novel construction ...
Measurement of the dependence of the hadron production fraction ratios fs/fu and fd/fu on B meson kinematic variables in proton-proton collisions at √s=13 TeV University of Antwerp
The dependence of the ratio between the B-s(0) and B+ hadron production fractions, f(s)/f(u), on the transverse momentum (p(T)) and rapidity of the B mesons is studied using the decay channels B-s(0) -> J/psi phi and B+ -> J/psi K+. The analysis uses a data sample of proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV, collected by the CMS experiment in 2018 and corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 61.6 fb(-1). The ...
First genome-wide association study of esophageal atresia identifies three genetic risk loci at CTNNA3, FOXF1/FOXC2/FOXL1, and HNF1B KU Leuven
Esophageal atresia with or without tracheoesophageal fistula (EA/TEF) is the most common congenital malformation of the upper digestive tract. This study represents the first genome-wide association study (GWAS) to identify risk loci for EA/TEF. We used a European case-control sample comprising 764 EA/TEF patients and 5,778 controls and observed genome-wide significant associations at three loci. On chromosome 10q21 within the gene CTNNA3 (p = ...
Belgium / Belgique / Bélgica : funerary practices at the northern fringe of the Atlantic area Ghent University
The western part of Belgium, northern France and south-eastern England belongs to the so-called Channel-North Sea cultural area, which forms a part of the larger Atlantic cultural complex as defined by different researchers. During the Middle Bronze Age, a characteristic funerary landscape arose with funerary monuments that are clearly visible in the landscape. These barrows structure the landscape and are grouped together in small clusters or ...
