Circular Economy’s Potential to Satisfy the EU’s Critical Metals Demand for Green Transition KU Leuven
The Circular Economy as a requirement for smart information system designs KU Leuven
Information gaps significantly hinder the circular economy (CE). Smart information systems (IS) will play a central role in implementing the CE and the shift toward it. Therefore, implementers of future IS architectures and researchers developing new IS designs must know how CE objectives can be included in the system requirements. Requirements are the starting point of the design process of a smart system and are the basis for assessing the ...
Defining the goals of Product Passports by circular product strategies KU Leuven
Information gaps are one of the major obstacles identified for the realization of a circular economy. Therefore, so-called product passports (PPs) are presented as a solution in the literature. A PP should provide the necessary information to all stakeholders along the product’s value chain to act more circularly. In general, information systems (IS) close information gaps, and in this study, we identify PPs as an instance of green IS. Although ...
Exploratory compositional analysis of street bin litter: Empirical study in a regional city in Belgium KU Leuven
Street bin litter (SBL) is an overlooked waste stream and its composition has barely been studied. In a first characterization attempt, five sorting experiments were performed on SBL collected in Leuven, Belgium. The waste was sampled and sorted into 8 main and 39 subfractions. The largest main fractions found were illegally dumped waste (33 ± 3%), organics (17 ± 4%) and paper and cardboard (16 ± 2%). On a functional level, the street bins were ...
