Doing multimodal intersubjectivity in music: embodied affordances in digital horn hangouts KU Leuven
This contribution describes the digital streaming interview about brass music at the interface between trumpet playing and multiple intersubjective relations. The cognitive linguistic notion of intersubjective construal is brought to a multimodal level, in line with the visual and acoustic affordances imposed by the digital interview, such as gaze directions and camera angles proper to the digital recording setting. Other constraints have to do ...
The Multimodal Representation of Italian Anti-Mafia Discourse: Foregrounding Civil Resistance and Interlocution in Two Global English Video Reportages KU Leuven
This paper examines the multimodal representation of civil resistance against Italian mafia (Cosa Nostra and ‘Ndrangheta) in two English video reportages. More specifically, the analysis describes interlocutive relations between social actors displayed not only in the criminal, but also in the civil and media spheres, and allows for a multimodal description of cohesion on the macro level in these media formats. The theoretical focus is on the ...
Embodied musical meaning-making and multimodal viewpoints in a trumpet master class KU Leuven
This paper analyzes how an instructor in a trumpet master class exploits multimodal viewpoints while addressing sound in verbal and/or visuospatial terms in order to conceptualize the interpretation of a piece of music. Multimodality of musical meaning ...
Vers une analyse multimodale du sens. Perspectives constructionnelles sur la gestualité co-grammaticale KU Leuven
Résumé français - La présente contribution vise à mieux cerner le statut de la gestualité en grammaire. The discourse concerning the cultural future of these cities highlights a process of change, involving different configurations of institutional stakeholders and/or local grassroots communities, which, top-down and/or bottom-up, reinvent the historical past of the city in order to ...
The interactional history of examples and parentheses: Note-taking practices in multiparty interaction among attendees of a mutual-help group for Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS) sufferers KU Leuven
© 2016 John Benjamins Publishing Company. In this article, we set out to examine how participants organize their note-taking while engaged in multiparty interaction. We first describe the collective display of affiliation as an interactional practice that allows note-takers to identify recordables and to legitimize their writing. We then focus on the use of examples (e.g.) and parentheses in the written notes. While style guides recommend the ...
