First surviving cancer, then surviving labour market Discrimination? Ghent University
The objective of the research is to gain a deeper understanding of whether (causality), why (mediating perceptions about cancer survivors’ productivity) and when in particular (moderating candidate and employer characteristics) hiring discrimination against cancer survivors occurs. To this end, two experiments are conducted in which recruiters take hiring decisions concerning job candidates with and without a history of cancer.
Hiring Discrimination: Moderators and Mechanisms Ghent University
The lack of labour market integration of vulnerable groups, such as refugees and other individuals with a migration background, the elderly and people with a mental or physical health impairment, receives much attention in both policy and academic circles. Academics have shown that hiring discrimination against these groups is a key factor contributing to their poor labour market integration. However, measuring discrimination is one thing, ...
Family reunification of Turkish migrants in Belgium and the Netherlands: Comparing rights perceptions and strategies in light of evolving policies. Ghent University
What do Turkish migrants think of family reunification procedures? Which strategies do they employ to be joined by their family members? How do they cope with changing policies? Classical legal research on family reunification does not take migrants’ perspectives into account, whereas in sociological research, laws and policies play only a marginal role. This socio-legal study adopts the perspective of the migrant ‘users’ of laws and ...

Zeolite-induced shape-selectivity for waste-free, highly regioselective catalytic arylation or alkenylation of aromatic C-H bonds KU Leuven
There is a strong pressure on the chemical sector to develop low waste routes, with a minimum number of process steps, for production of high added value chemicals. Especially pharmaceutical production asks for products that are free of metal traces or residues of reactants, and isomerically pure. This provides a strong driver to invent new routes that activate C-H bonds, e.g. in aromatic molecules. However, aromatics often contain several ...
