Long-term adaptations of the brain, such as memory formation, rely on a delicate dialogue between neurons that is typified by intensive remodeling of both cellular and nuclear morphology. Recent observations suggest an important role for B-type lamins in neurodevelopment. We suspect that lamins interfere with neuronal plasticity via their architectural function in the nucleus.
