TransBio:Biogas Versie 2.0:Â Technological transition of the Flemish biogas sector towards innovative business models with increased profitability and reduced support dependence Biogas-E - Anaerobic digestion platform for Flanders npo
The biogas sector in Flanders counts approx. 40 large scale installations, and 50 to 75 small scale (farm sized) installations. Biogas, as a renewable energy technology, produced 602 GWh of renewable electricity and 850 GWh of renewable heat in 2013. Yearly, 1.3 million tons of organic waste is converted to biogas, alongside hundreds of thousands of tons of manure. The biogas technology is therefore responsible for the valorisation of a large ...

Multijunction Solar Cells Based on Hybrid Perovskites KU Leuven
We investigate the efficiency potential of organic–inorganic halide perovskite/c-Silicon tandem solar cells, a new class of photovoltaic devices. Tandem solar cells constructed from a crystalline Silicon bottom cell and a low-cost top cell offer a promising way to ensure long-term price reductions through high efficiency photovoltaic modules. We are currently working on developing a bifacial thin-film top cell with an organic-inorganic ...

Storage via Power-to-Gas in Future Energy Systems: the Need for Synthetic Fuel Storage in Systems with High Shares of Intermittent Renewables KU Leuven
Rising global temperature concerns drive unprecedented changes in the electrical power system like the massive deployment of intermittent renewable energy sources. Such large-scale renewables deployment requires a variety of flexibility options for the electrical power system to be operated reliably. A possibly important flexibility option is storage. Next to battery storage and pumped hydro storage, which have a comparably small storage ...
Development of a Center for Sustainable Energy Expertise for Cities. KU Leuven
The purpose of this study is to lay the foundation for the development of a center of excellence for the two main energy sources that can be harvested in an urban environment, namely solar energy in the form of photovoltaic energy and heat of different origins, shared through an advanced heat set of the fourth generation.
