Numerical modelling of moored floating structures and energy devices using a non-linear approach Ghent University
Moored floating structures are connected to the seabed through mooring line systems composed of cables or chains, and have wide applications in coastal and offshore engineering. Moored floating offshore wind turbines and Wave Energy Converters (WECs) are examples of such stuctures from the field of Marine Renewable Energy (MRE). Mooring systems can represent a considerable part of the total cost of these technologies and they influence their ...
Multi-objective societal optimization of structural fire safety investments for unique building projects using advanced regression techniques Ghent University
An applied risk-based methodology is developed for defining the societally optimum level of investment in structural fire safety for unique building projects. Special emphasis is placed on the definition of tolerability limits and the simultaneous consideration of multiple fire safety objectives.
Advanced regression techniques are applied to couple structural fire performance calculations with fire spread and cost evaluations.
Development of a CFD tool and associated experimental validation techniques for fluid mud bottoms disturbed by moving objects Ghent University
In navigation areas with bottoms covered by a thick fluid mud layer, deep-drafted ships may be
allowed to sail at a limited vertical distance above the mud-water separation , and sometimes ships
even sail through the mud. This causes a very intense interaction between the water column, the
mud layer and the ship. The purpose of this project is to develop a numerical methodology to
calculate the interaction between water, ...

Global climate change hotspots in terms of multi-risk assessment of hydro-climatic hazards KU Leuven
The natural hazards can have devastating consequences on the society in terms of human health and mortality and also on the ecosystem and the economy. In the last decade, five billion people have been affected by natural disasters resulting in approximately $1 trillion of economic losses around the world. The hydro-climatic natural hazards are becoming more dangerous as a result of climate change and as population and infrastructure continue ...
Energiedissipatiegracht Grote Vijver Flanders Hydraulics Research
