DFT-assisted detailed kinetic model development of rare events during radical polymerization processes Ghent University
This project aims to improve detailed model prediction of polymer properties by obtaining accurate kinetic & thermodynamic parameters for reactions in the liquid phase(s) of polymerization media using first-principles methods. The focus is on the rare events that occur during radical polymerization, in order to improve the kinetic models and the interpretation of Pulsed Laser Polymerization measurements of propagation rate ...
The proposal addresses bottlenecks associated with crosslinking of gelatin derivatives after
processing through electrospinning and spraydrying. Indeed, the state-of-the-art does not permit
crosslinking in solid state. Hydrogel precursors will therefore be designed with flexible, urethanebased
spacers separating the backbone from the crosslinkable moieties, which will result in a
paradigm shift towards the applicability of ...
Crystallization is of crucial importance in the synthesis, separation and purification of high-end materials in the chemical and pharmaceutical industry. In spite the importance of crystallization, the knowledge about the mechanisms that lead to crystal growth are not well known.
To understand the different stages of crystallization, different techniques were developed based on harmonic scattering. Various properties such as ...
Design and synthesis of organic semiconductors for nearinfrared photodetection with bulk heterojunction organic cavity devices Hasselt University
Contamination of water in Egypt with pesticides is a huge problem. A novel, fast and cheap detection method (based on capacitive sensing) will be developed to monitor neonicotinoids in water. The level of human exposure will be studied as well for the first time in Egypt through detection of neonicotinoids
and their metabolites in urine.
High temperature Gel Permeation Chromatography Ghent University
temperature gel permeation chromatography (>180°C) allows the measurement of the chain length distribution (CLD) of polyolefins important for synthesis and chemical recycling assessment. Next to that a lowering of the GPC analysis temperature and switch of the columns allows the CLD measurement of e.g. poly(meth)acrylates and polystyrene up to high chain lengths.
Table top SEM with integrated in-situ micromechanical testing for fiber, polymer and composite materials Ghent University
The requested table top SEM with integrated micromechanical testing, combines a large sample chamber to accommodate a sensitive micromechanical set-up with a high magnification and easy sampling. This is highly novel and only recently available at moderate costs. The in-situ visualization of material performance under load at high magnification will boost the academic research of the applicants and their collaborators.
