Title Promoter Affiliations Abstract "Digitizing Historical Collection Psychology and Educational Sciences – HCPPW 2.0" "Pieter Verstraete" "History of Education, History Research Unit, Leuven, Education, Culture and Society, Cultural History since 1750, Leuven, Education and Society" "The Historical Collection of Psychology and Educational Sciences preserves a wealth of source materials for researchers interested in the history of education and training: textbooks and curricula in primary education, monographs in the field of psychology and educational sciences, wall charts and pedagogical journals (from the late 18th century until now). The purchase of a professional scanning device will facilitate and enhance the accessibility of this collection. Building onto the investments made in recent years of inventorying and classifying the collection, the digitization of the preserved materials should further expand and facilitate the access to the collection and give inter/national researchers the opportunity to test innovative research hypotheses. In order to realize this important goal the purchase of the scanning device will be coupled to the creation of extended and enriched OCR-data." The faculties have each drawn up faculty regulations in which the funding possibilities of the Faculty Mobility and Sabbatical Fund are detailed." "Alpha Stimulation Policy: Sabbatical Fund for Faculty of Psychology and Educational Sciences" "Faculty fund in support of research sabbaticals. A sabbatical leave has the objective to free a professor from any teaching and/or administrative duties in order to devote oneself exclusively to their scientific research. Each professor uses this time according to one’s own objectives." The cooperation aims at a larger role for research on education in health care courses and the availability of more financial resources for this type of research. Partners are planning research on assessment of competencies during training, probably within the framework of a portfolio." "Education renewal project (OVP) 2008: From hearings to active think-tank. Pilots in the biological sciences." "Luc Leyns" Biology "Problem: Our teaching experience teaches us that in the biology study program, the traditional form of teaching in which the teacher / assistant teaches and the student must assimilate the offered knowledge, does not always work efficiently. This problem is certain when we realize that (i) students use different learning styles and (ii) this assimilation method is insufficient to process a number of biological concepts in a critical and profound way. This situation is not new and is expressed in different aspects during all years of the study program, both in the Bachelor and in Master. Education models should therefore be developed that not only enable the student to develop a sustainable knowledge base, but also to acquire practical skills. In order to achieve this goal, extra attention must be paid to new skills training. In our view this can be achieved by moving away from the current, rather passive, unimedial educational landscape. The alternative is the switch to an active multimodal model where the students ""learn by doing"". As a result, we propose a series of methods to transform the classroom lectures into active think tanks. Target audience: In this pilot study we aim for Biology students of the third Bachelor year and the two Master years, with the Erasmus students included. After this pilot project we hope that this can be opened up to other scientific disciplines, as well as the entire VUB community. These study years were chosen because during the first two years of the program, students gather a lot of knowledge and learn a number of skills, but they have little chance to bring these two aspects together and use them in practice." "Educational innovation in applied research: a study into science concepts as a reference framework" "Redrafted, the starting point of the expedition, the research question of schools on the effects of school-specific educational innovations, the intense collaboration between schools (practitioners) and education researchers at practical scientific research into the effects of these innovations is the cornerstone. The research that allow schools and which are addressed with education researchers join three main themes: 1) Netherlands talented country: the maximum reach, 2) enjoy going to school: stay alert, and 3) Education is popular: staff pride. A fourth and overarching theme ""Sustainable renew '' consistent with both the principles of the Expedition, and the principles underlying research proposal. Objective of the underlying research project is to examine the perceptions of teachers regarding the purpose and mission of science in general and education research in particular. This conception of science education and research serve as a general reference. Underlying research proposal concerns wetenscahpopvattingen. Before discussing science concepts is first defined a clear problem with the Expedition is placed within the problematic relationship between educational research and educational practice." "Analysis of an epistemology of listening in educational and social science research" "Paulus Smeyers" "Department of Pedagogy" "How would educational and social science research look differently if we worked with a sufficiently rich idea of what it means to listen? What warrants may such research have other than the kinds that echo those of the 'hard' scientist, the statistician and the epidemiologist? Can literature and literary criticism offer an epistemological paradigm for understanding people and communities?"
