  • Research Expertise  (Vrije Universiteit Brussel):

My main expertise is situated in the field of structural biology, enzymology, steady state and pre-steady state enzyme kinetics and biophysics. Hereby I focus on the elucidation of the structure and function of enzymes and enzyme complexes involved in human disease and neurological disorders in particular. In recent years my group has mainly been investigating enzymes belonging the family of the large multi-domain GTPase and their biological interaction networks. Topics include, among others, Roco proteins such as LRRK2 involved in Parkinson’s disease, the hypothetical Rab GTPase activating protein TBC1D24 implicated in epilepsy and Obg involved in bacterial persistence. Within all these projects we also strive to translate our novel insights into new strategies to fight human diseases.
