Researcher

Sandra Matthijs

  • Research Expertise:
    • In the frame of a new project with the Brussels Region (Prospective Research in Brussels), Dr. Matthijs will investigate the microbiological diversity of Brussels region rivers (the Zenne and the Woluwe). Already, we got some some results concerning the accumulation of Pseudomonas aeruginosa in the Woluwe in function of increasing pollution. With Jean Marie Meyer in Strasbourg, we identified several potential new species of fluorescent pseudomonads in the Woluwe samples. Dr. Matthijs is also working on Pseudomonas fluorescens where she discovered the pathway for the biosynthesis of a new siderophore, quinolobactin, endowed with an antimicrobial activity.
