Loreto De Brabandere

  • Research Expertise:

My area of interest and expertise is the biogeochemistry of aquatic systems in temperate and (sub)tropical regions, with focus on nitrogen and carbon cycling in benthic and pelagic compartments. Most recently, I have focused on nitrogen cycling at oxic-anoxic interfaces in sediments, euxinic water bodies and oxygen minimum zones and on nitrate cycling in pelagic systems. I am particularly interested in the environmental factors that regulate denitrification, anammox and dissimilatory nitrate reduction rates at these interfaces.
