Lars Breuls

  • Research Expertise:

    Lars Breuls obtained a Ph.D. fellowship of the Research Foundation - Flanders (FWO), which allowed him to carry out ethnographic research in immigration detention in Belgium and in the Netherlands (October 2016 – September 2020). He succesfully defended his Ph.D. on immigration detention practices on 7 September 2020. He is now working as a professor of penology and studying the decision-making practices of immigration officers. His research interests include practices of immigration control, penal and administrative decision-making, and practices of prison sentence implementation.
