Study on the legislation and application of the Plan-EIA Directive in spatial planning in practice in a number of EU Member States.

Book - Report

Subtitle:final report
The purpose of this study is to gain insight into the application of the EIA Directive in spatial planning in a number of European member states. The subject matter is about a European Directive and it is therefore important to know how the other member states deal with the same problem that the Flemish Region is confronted with. Therefore, this study focuses on the practical application in order to know what the good examples are on the one hand and on the other hand to learn which problems or bottlenecks should be avoided. This study should also contribute to the development of bottlenecks that are currently characterised as bottlenecks in the Flemish Region.

The main objective of this assignment is to provide practical solutions from an understanding across regional boundaries with a view to possible further process-oriented integration of spatial planning and planning EIA in Flanders.

The study:
- provides practice-oriented solution directions from an insight across regional boundaries with a view to possible further process-oriented integration of spatial planning and planning EIA in Flanders;
- is mainly focused on the practical application to know on the one hand what can be regarded as good examples and on the other hand to learn which problems or bottlenecks are best avoided;
- also contributes to understanding and solving bottlenecks.
