Spatial Report Flanders (RURA) chapter 5: space for facilities

The availability, proximity and accessibility of facilities also determine the quality of life of a place. The evolution of facilities, and how we absorb these developments spatially, have an important impact on the quality of our environment. In this sense, it is also an interesting indicator to estimate the development opportunities of places. What evolutions do we expect? Today, almost everywhere in Flanders, we score very well in terms of facilities compared to the other European countries. This is thanks to a dense network of facilities that reflects the distribution of our buildings. In the coming years, this network will evolve under the influence of social and economic trends such as ageing, greening, scaling up and digitisation.
