Simulation of the virtual deployment of 5G in Flanders

Book - Report

This report is part of Part 5 "Simulations" of the study "New developments concerning 5G, the societal impact of the rollout of 5G networks on radiation exposure". As a result of technological evolutions, legislation limiting exposure to electromagnetic radiation from transmission antennas needs to be adapted. Part of the technical evolution is the rollout of the 5G network. In the proposal to amend the legislation, the current cumulative standard remains in place. The current standard per antenna is no longer suitable for limiting exposure to electromagnetic radiation from transmission antennas. Therefore, the application of a technology-independent standard, a standard per operator, is being investigated. To determine the impact of the per-operator standard, it was investigated whether this standard would impose restrictions on networks with fixed transmitter antennas. A 5G rollout was also simulated through the application of model calculations, added to existing antenna sites. This report describes the simulations carried out.
