The political stalemate in Belgium, between 2007 and 2011, is treated as a case for the analysis of performative aspects of politics. The roles played by political protagonists Bart De Wever and Elio Di Rupo are scrutinized on their dramaturgical function, against the background of general (performative) tendencies in the evolution of Belgium as a federal state.
