Identification of the sources of local higher human polyaromatic hydrocarbon (PAH) exposure in the regions Menen and Genk-Zuid, and policy interpretation

Book - Report

Objective. The main objective of the current project was to investigate the sources of exposure to polycyclic aromatic components (PAHs) in the Genk/Diepenbeek and Menin regions and to encourage the translation of the results into policy actions. The study included a sampling campaign of PAHs in the air at different locations in both regions. During the sampling period, in addition to air measurements, participants were also asked to submit nutrition questionnaires in order to estimate their intake of PAHs via their daily diet. A metabolite of the PAH pyrene and phenanthrene was measured in urine from a limited research population living at or near the sampling sites.
