Food waste and consumer behaviour among Flemish households

Subtitle:Case study

This dossier gathers the most important insights and the best available figures on food loss in Flemish households. In this document, the Department of Environment brings together insights from its own research with those from behavioural sciences and international research on food loss in households (a.o. within the framework of the European REFRESH-research). The aim of this dossier is to support policymakers, actors in the agrifood chain, civil society organisations and citizens' initiatives to take more planned and targeted action to reduce and prevent food loss in consumers' homes. Chapter 2 provides an overview of the best available figures. Chapter 3 provides an overview of the factors that influence food loss in households. Chapter 4 describes a number of points that are important to increase the effectiveness of interventions, and Chapter 5 examines a number of specific themes in more detail.
