Eccentricity in cores: spatial development and sustainable transport - a development guide, in the context of "Nodes and Dynamics". Study commissioned by the Flemish Planning Bureau for the Environment and Spatial Development

Book - Report

Spatial structure and mobility structure interact. We are striving to strengthen the cohesion between the two. Transport nodes of collective transport, or transport nodes for short, are an important lever for spatial transformation. Supra-local public transport networks (such as the rail network) are often characterised by eccentric transport nodes. Due to their peripheral location, these eccentric transport nodes today lack the necessary dynamics to function fully as a sustainable transport hub for collective transport.

This development guide is intended for the development of well-connected (inter)regional transport nodes, located at a core with a good level of facilities. This guide wants to demonstrate to municipalities, provinces and designers, faced with the task of developing a well-equipped eccentric (inter)regional transport hub, that integrated solutions can be imagined in different directions.
