Cost Optimization Simulation for Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure

To teach engineering students the interrelations and requirements for a robust, controlled and secured system incorporating all challenges of the modern IoT-system, an engineering case was developed. A charging station for electric batteries (such as for electric cars) was studied, both from the client (user at the load station) side as from the delivery side (service provider). The energy source is selected on criteria of availability and costs as both differ during the time (depending on weather conditions and grid load). In this paper, the authors look at the optimization of the delivery cost of energy depending on the energy source and time of charging.
