Project

Zebrafish platform for neuroactive drug discovery and safety assessment

This project aims at establishing a validated and high-throughput zebrafish-based platform implementing specific disease and toxicity models, with the purpose to create a viable spin-off company. The platform has a focus on phenotypic drug discovery for neurological diseases, an approach proven more successful in identifying novel drugs affecting the CNS compared to targeted drug discovery. It also provides the opportunity to assess the safety of hits and leads at an early stage of drug discovery, thereby reducing the risk of late stage withdrawal of compounds due to toxicity issues, an aspect that applies to all fields of drug discovery. The safety assessment pipeline is also applicable to assess the safety of compounds present in cosmetics or food.
