Truth and tradition: Augustine's notion of sapientia in dialogue with Gadamer's philosophical hermeneutics

This research primarily concerns Augustine’s theory of divine illumination. His dissertation, entitled Truth and Tradition, is aimed at a recovery of Augustinian illumination in the language of contemporary philosophy, in particular that of Gadamer’s philosophical hermeneutics. The upshot is a theological, philosophical, and historical study of competing views of truth and rationality (premodern, modern, and postmodern) in critical dialogue with one another.
