Tidal River Management and its Impacts in the SouthWest Region of Bangladesh. (R-5867)

Tidal river management (TRM) is a popular concept based on generations of indigenous water management practices. Now a days TRM is going to be an adaptation strategy for the people of South West region of Bangladesh. The objectives of the study are to find out and assessment of environmental and socio-economic consequences of water logging in the south west region of Bangladesh; to chalk out and assessment of environmental and socio-economic impacts; natural and organizational conflicts with Tidal River Management (TRM) implementation in solving water logging problem; To find out technical problems of TRM implementation.The present study is based on both primary and secondary data. Primary data will be collected through Focus Group Discussion (FGD), Key Informant Interview (KII), case studies and natural observation techniques. Moreover, secondary data sources such as books, thesis papers, news papers, articles, magazines, reports of Gos and NGOs will be used to enrich the study. Digital Elevation Model (DEM), O'Brien mathematical equation, Geographic Information System (GIS) and Frank Ellis's livelihood Framework will be used for this study. TRM is still learning-by-doing stage. The research will recommend for improving TRM to ensure livelihood security and environmental sustainability in the south west region.
