Project

Sustainable Metallurgy(SUSMET)

By combining pyrometallurgy (Blanpain) with solvometallurgy (Binnemans), the IOF-M SUSMET programme focuses on developing and valorising Sustainable Metallurgy solutions. The SUSMET programme will link up with the other ZAP Members involved in SIM² KU Leuven, thus providing a comprehensive offer to metallurgical (and other) companies in Flanders, Europe and the Rest of the World. In large-scale EU projects, the different Research Lines of SIM² KU Leuven will be typically integrated in one larger flow sheet or value chain approach.

The valorisation strategy for IOF-M SUSMET is strongly based on the further development of the two Service Centres HiTemp and SOLVOMET, which will be used as leverage for further valorisation in terms of novel research projects and bilateral contract research.
