SPECIES: speciatation of Chromium in ionic liquids as alternative Electrodeposition Solvents (SPECIES)

The goal of this project is to build knowledge about the speciation of chromium (III) in the electrodeposition of chromium layers from ionic liquids, with a view to developing an alternative, sustainable method for electrolytic deposition applications. Concrete lenses targets are set: - the determination of the chromium environment in the model medium, of a choline chloride / CrC13.6H20 ionic liquid by using a literature study, examination of some specific compounds and the synthesis and structural characterization of a number of model compounds - one in-depth characterization of the in-situ chromium (III) speciation at the substrate interface during the electrodeposition. - determining the relationship between the chromium (III) speciation and the morphology of the deposited layers for the purpose of the improvement of the layer morphology - the scaling up of the newly developed technology, on the basis of ionic liquids and the design of a pilot line.
