Single cell RNA and small non-coding RNA sequencing to identify biomarkers for pathogenesis and therapy response in type 1 diabetes.

This project aims to use deep sequencing of single-cell RNAs to identify the unique gene expression profiles and heterogeneities in islet derived T-cells during autoimmune type 1 diabetes progression but also from therapeutic responders and nonresponders. Moreover, we want to correlate these tissue-specific T-cell signatures with circulating (cell-free plasma) small non-coding RNAs during disease progression and in responders and nonresponders pre- and post-therapy to identify potential markers for disease staging, prognosis and therapy prediction.
