Shared leadership in sport teams

Within team sports, it has been demonstrated that not only the coach, but also good athlete leaders in the team are the driving force behind a team’s performance. To ensure that the leadership potential in the team can flourish, it is essential to create the optimal environment in which shared leadership is effective. In this research, we identify the boundary conditions that moderate the relation between shared leadership and performance. Subsequently, we will use this knowledge to design a leadership development program to strengthen the leadership potential in the team. As such, we will be able to realize an effective structure of shared leadership.
