Screening of frail elderly ( ≥ 65 years) at the emergency department: predictive value of two screenings instrument (interRAI ED and SEGA) for readmission, length of stay and mortality.

Hospital admissions of elderly occur mainly through the emergency department. This department is therefore the most appropriate place to identify vulnerable patients. Due to the acute character and the relatively short length of stay (<24h) is a comprehensive assessment difficult. Yet, screening of patients who might benefit from further comprehensive assessment is possible. The purpose of the present study is to evaluate the predictive value of two screenings instruments that were developed to be used at the emergency department, (SEGA and interRAI ED) on outcome parameters such as readmission, length of stay and mortality.
