Scientific support center for youth and youth research platform JOP (2021-2025) (Steunpunt JEUGD)

The Youth Research Platform was originally founded in 2003. The Youth Research Platform is an interdisciplinary and interuniversitary cooperation between the research groups of Social Welfare (University of Ghent), the department of Sociology (University of Brussels) and the Research Line Youth Criminology and Juvenile Justice (Leuven Institute of Criminology, KU Leuven).

We unlock Flemish youth research, both by constructing an online database of existing youth research, and by administrating a large-scaled survey. Every 5 years, a survey is distributed on a large scale under a representative sample of the youth in Flanders and Brussels. Both a postal survey as a school survey are administrated. The aim is to inform youngsters, practitioners, policy-makers and researchers about the “state of the youth”. The Platform aims to support policy makers in preparing and developing an evidence-based youth policy. The collected data will result in national as well as international publications on several aspects of the contemporary social world of young people (in Flanders).
