The SCATE project (Smart Computer-Aided Translation Environment) investigates a range of technological aspects of the professional translation process with the aim of optimalizing this process. It focusses on
- machine translation and its integration with translation memories;
- automatic evaluation of MT output in order to assess its usability;
- automatic term extraction from comparable corpora;
- speech recognition in the context of MT, such as speech translation and speech recognition as a post-editing input method.
The project also investigates how to optimally design the user interace of the translator. The various aspects are combined into a prototype demonstration system.
