Sabbatical Veerle Colaert: Handbook FInancial Regulation / Research Project Sustainable Finance

I am developing a research project on “Sustainable Finance”. Since the European Commission launched its Sustainable Finance Action Plan in March 2018, numerous legislative initiatives have been taken to weave sustainability into financial regulation. As a result, within a few years, the entire regulatory framework will have been rewritten to encourage the financial sector to finance sustainable projects. Although a great deal of research has already been devoted to the idea of sustainable finance and individual implementation measures, no research has yet been conducted into the impact of sustainable finance as a policy objective on the nature of financial law. The research objectives of this project are as follows: (1) assess the impact of sustainable finance on the nature of European financial law and (2) provide a framework for policy makers (i) to evaluate the effectiveness of EU action and (ii) ) resolve conflicts between sustainable finance and other financial regulation objectives (such as stability, investor protection, market integrity and market efficiency). In this project we will try to answer the following question: “Are the rules implementing the EU sustainable finance agenda effective in light of the sustainable finance objective (s) expressed in policy documents, in the light of legal economic and behavioral theories? , and taking into account the other objectives of financial regulation? ”. During the sabbath period, I want to further substantiate this project, set up an international network, and take further steps to acquire funding.
