Role and prospects for industrial relations and social dialogue in green transition management of local economic systems (SOCIAL GREEN DEAL)

This project is aimed at understanding the current and potential role of industrial relations and social dialogue in managing the greening of local economies.  The COVID-19 crisis, with the equivalent of 255 millions jobs lost, exacerbated the situation of some regions, economic sectors and population groups leading to an increase in poverty and inequalities and hindering the convergence process, one the main priorities of the Union.  These differential effects of the crisis are likely to leave an enduring scar on the overall macroeconomic performance of economies.  Recovery strategies must be as human-centered in their impact as the effects of the crisis itself and focus on achieving resilience through the pursuit of social justice.  The framework where such recovery should be pursued is the European Green Deal, which aims at transforming the Union in a fair and sustainable society with a modern, resource-efficient and comptetitve economy.  Social dialogue will be essential to build the consensus needed to achieve a successful and sustainable recover, which can bring positive change to our well-being, create decent employpment and safeguard our planet.  Challenges and opportunities need to be faced through a well managed transition rooted in social dialogue process.
