The Right to Design

This generative research proposal addresses a neglected aspect of design—the meaningful and formal recognition of design as more than a basic capacity (design) or privileged act (Design) but as a fundamental human action through which citizens can express themselves and improve the material or social conditions, which they consider most vital to their survival as human beings and to their claims as citizens. This interdisciplinary research brings together diverse fields such as social epistemology, post- colonial theory, design theory and practice, educational theory and social innovation—putting in dialogue material culture, rights, theories of knowledge and education.
