Project

Residential child psychiatric care for young refugees (ResCareRefugees). (ResCareRefugees)

A twofold objective forms the basis of the project: (i) increasing access to residential child psychiatric care for underage refugees; and (ii) promoting expertise in transcultural trauma care to the target group.

To this end, the project proposal concerns the development of a residential child psychiatric service for childcare beneficiaries of underage refugees. This offer will be situated in a residence in Kortenberg under the management of UPC KU Leuven with a capacity of 30 reception-friendly young people at
annual basis and possibility of protective measures in case of serious psychiatric crisis in the hospital. For this residential offer, a combined recognition as a day hospitalization for child psychiatry and community group special youth care is being prepared. To this end, consultations are held with the relevant policy levels (Flemish Government & Federal Government service).

The AMIF project operation is aimed at the policy preparation and substantive control of the residential supply during the first years of operation, ensuring a sustainable continuation.
