Rescuing a master from anonymity: reconstructing Didymus of Alexandria’s exegesis on the Proverbs

My project is concerned with the value of Didymus of Alexandria's Commentary on the Proverbs as a document for the history of Alexandrian theology and in order to characterize Didymus as a writer, on the basis of the passages preserved in the catenae and their confrontation with the material discovered in Tura. The project will follow these three steps: (1) a reconstruction as complete as possible of Didymus’ Commentary on the Proverbs thanks to the catenae material; (2) a comprehensive commentary on Didymus’ exegesis compared with other Patristic writers so as to produce the first monograph on Patristic use of the Proverbs; (3) through literary tools, a complete analysis of Didymus’ voice as a writer.
