Prison Disciplinary Procedures & European Integration – A Comparative and European Study

The project will analyse the law, policy and practice concerning prison disciplinary procedures in three European Union countries with differing legal traditions – Belgium, Germany and England/Wales. Research focusing specifically on such disciplinary proceedings and their compliance with European law and policy has not, however, been carried out. This project will assess whether prison disciplinary proceedings comply with European law and policy norms and identify whether additional measures may be required to ensure that such compliance occurs.
