Prevention of heart failure in type 2 diabetes by exercise intervention

Heart failure is one of the most common complications in patients with type 2 diabetes. Exercise is suggested treatment strategy in type 2 diabetes. However, it is unkown which traing intensity and volume have the most protective influence on the cardiac structure and function. In this study we will recruit 182 pateints with type 2 diabetes in two Belgian regions (UHasselt - Jessa Ziekenhuis en KU Leuven - UZ Leuven, Belgian). Patient will receive either a 6months of exercise training of different intensities and volumes or no intervention. Changes in the cardiac function, aerobic fitness, metabolic control and body composition will be assessed at baseline, 3months, 6 months and followed-up at 12 months.
