Project

Population structure, demographic stability and adaptive changes in two overexploited fish species; the European eel and common sole.

The negative effects of fisheries can influence marine species at various levels, ranging from changes in demography and genetic structure, decrease in population size to shifts in life-history traits. This research project has two major aims: (A) a unique sampling campaign and genetic analysis of leptocephali eel larvae in the Sargasso Sea; and (B) an assessment of fisheries induced evolutionary changes using molecular tools in the European eel (Anguilla anguilla L.) and common sole (Solea solea L.).
