Peroperative vagus nerve stimulation as new therapeutic approach to shorten postoperative ileus.

In a test animal model, electrical stimulation of the vagus nerve has been shown to have anti-inflammatory activity and is capable of shortening the duration of the POI. In this project, the researchers wish to translate this finding into the human situation. The final utilization goal is to introduce theĀ nervus vagus stimulation (NVS) as a new treatment for POI, thereby shortening the duration of POI, reducing morbidity and improving quality of life for patients who have undergone thatĀ one stomach surgery.
