‘OBI-CATCH’, maternal OBesity and outcomes in next generations, Impact of innovative lifestyle interventions to CATCH maternal, paternal and childhood obesity

The prevalence of overweight and obesity in the female reproductive population is increasing worldwide to a major burden of public health with prevalence up to 25% in European regions. Excessive pre-pregnancy weight, weight gain during pregnancy as well as weight retention after delivery puts both the mother and her child at risk. We aim to understand the causal linkages between maternal weight, excessive weight gain during pregnancy, postpartum weight retention and the likelihood of obesity from newborns through infancy by investigating temporal changes in maternal weight, neonatal weight and weight in childhood on a continuously and prospectively controlled manner, taking into account important metabolic, stress related, anthropometric and behavioral mediators. We focus on a family based approach to develop innovative lifestyle interventions to prevent obesity in young and expecting families.
