New models and methods for sequencing and project scheduling.

The purpose of this thesis is to provide new insights in how to solve different scheduling and sequencing problems subject to various types of uncertainties. To this end, we study different problems including the sequential testing problem, the precedence constrained sequencing problem and precedence constrained project scheduling problem. In these problems, we consider different types of uncertainties such as stochastic task durations and activity failures. We mainly focus on financial objectives including cost minimization and net present value maximization. We develop, implement, and evaluate different exact and heuristic solution techniques for each problem.
