Project

A new frame for temporary and permanent working disability.

According to many actors the notions of work incapacity and invalidity reinforce the negative image building of the concerned people. The notions carry a stigma, damage the self-confidence and thwart these people of getting a grip on their lives and surmounting their problems. In collaboration with the King Baudouin Foundation the Institute for Media Studies investigates ways to develop a more balanced image building of these statutes. Using a qualitative analysis of diverse media such as for example newspapers and magazines the project maps the frames concerning work incapacity and invalidity. In a second step counter-frames are also formulated. Counter-frames are frames that function to 'de-problematize' an issue. Using the results of this research the RIZIV will be able to work out new ways to guide the concerned people.
